About the Friends of Mitton ...
The Friends are a group of people, mostly parents of children at school, who get together and organise events to raise money for the school. We have regular monthly meetings, which are very informal and relaxed. Everyone is welcome to attend any of the meetings, just turn up. No previous experience is required and we are always grateful to those who can help in any way, however small (many hands make light work).
The money that we raise is used to supplement the school income and we pay a monthly allowance to cover the little extras that make all the difference. In the past we have given large sums of money, for example; we helped to refurbish both the Infants and Junior Playgrounds, build and equip the Computer Suite, build the Junior Library, equip the Music Room. Most of the time we pay smaller sums for the day-to-day things:
- replacing all the tables in the Early Years and Year One classrooms
- providing benches in the playgrounds and on the field (on going rolling programme for work)
- planting trees on the school field to provide shade for the children
- providing funding for special events such as Maths Week and in previous years International Week and Science Week
- buying playground equipment for use at playtimes
- underwriting the cost of visiting theatre groups
- underwriting the cost of annual trip to the Roses Pantomime, Key Stage 1 Summer trip, coach to Tirlebrook School for Christmas entertainment
plus many other items too numerous to mention.
Our funds are raised through a mixture of events, the biggest of which are the Christmas, Easter and Summer Fairs. We have also had excellent quiz nights, Family Fun Nights and Discos, some just for the children but others for the whole family. We are always open to new ideas and promise to make you feel welcome and have a laugh. (Our sub-committee meetings are always entertaining). Becoming a Friend is an extremely rewarding way of giving the school extra support and making memories for our children. (Lets face it, no one will forget ‘I’m a Celebrity Get me Out of Here’ at the Family Fun Night!)
If you would like any further information please contact one of the committee or just turn up at a meeting. We look forward to seeing you!
